But, if you want true impact, clichés (like “be nice to everyone”) will not take you far; they won’t even get you close. There is a lot more to being a persuasive and commanding individual. To explain it in the most straightforwardly comprehensible way, powerful people give off certain non-verbal signals that make them APPEAR “powerful.” And, as a result of these signals, they “effortlessly” draw in people who defer authority to them (like a self-fulfilling prophecy).

That is, if you APPEAR as though you are in a position of authority; authority will automatically be handed over to you. People will pursue you to make you their friend and / or mentor. Both the not-so-powerful and powerful profit from your friendship; you are, after all, big shot who can “make things happen”. You appeal to people’s evolutionary instincts, both of men and women. I.E. they want to associate with you, the high ranking alpha to increase their chances of survival.

So, what are these indicators that trigger the commanding role? A few of them we are in control of and some we need to take control of (as much as we can).  You don’t need all of them to maintain the air of authority and power; just a couple of the markers will do.

They are

1. Presence – Looks, figure, style and facial structure.
2. Economic capability – A reputable occupation, excess cash to spend, business acumen.
3. Social fluidity and grace with both sexes – Being a man’s man AND a ladies’ man, having authority over both men and women.
4. Intellectual capability – Quick wit and intelligence; being a good orator.

Let me explain

Presence: You don’t have to look like George Clooney. But, if you don’t, you better dress well. And go to the gym, and take good care of yourself. Although plenty of ugly males have been in positions of high influence, it’s quite often the more attractive ones who get it with least resistance. It’s an unconscious reaction; humans seek out other good-looking humans in both sexual and non-sexual interactions.

Economic capability: Money can’t buy you happiness, but it is a lot better to have it than toil in poverty. We automatically assume that people who make over $1000000 have a lot more capabilities in every aspect than people who make $45,000 a year.

Social Fluidity and Power: Showing up at every party will not be enough; be the dude who everyone asks which party to go to (authority). Or, you’ve to be known as the one who throws the liveliest parties in town. The guy who is in the centre of everyone’s (admittedly short) attention is inevitably going to be the one with the most influence, even if, in the odd chance if he’s not the richest or prettiest .

Intellectual capability: Even if you don’t yet possess any of the other markers, this is the one indicator you need to have! You may ask, why? I’ll tell you, because, with adequate intellect (and if given enough time), you can make it SEEM like you have all the other markers! And, even you if you can’t, then you can come up with solid reasons as to why you don’t have the other indicators. If any marker is missing from your life, make it look deliberate (e.g. if you’re poor, project an anti-capitalistic and altruistic outlook, “capitalism is ruining this world, you corporate whore!”).

Do I need the indicators?

The indicators are not necessities; they just make it convenient for the external world (and people) to determine whether you merit their respect / time / effort / money / love. What is vital, however, is the attitude associated with being powerful. Influential people know that they’re influential, and assume that everyone who meets them will spontaneously be drawn in.

You need to assume you already have the power. Once you truly believe that, it doesn’t really matter if the indicators are there. They’re supplementary. Act as if you have all the power in the world, as my dearest friend always says, soon enough you will. Acquire as many indicators as you can, or manipulate it so that it looks like you have them (or that the lack is part of your plan). People will then pursue you, instead of the other way around, and influencing them to do ANYTHING, you’ll find, is a breeze.

In my next article, I’ll expose the “less friendly” parts of the influencer mind-set to adopt (power doesn’t essentially make you a lot of friends). If you want more influence in your life, more things done your way, you are bound to make some enemies (think Koch Brothers, or Steve Jobs). I’ll tell you how to do that, in detail, next time.

I’ll tell you a secret… Persuasion is MANIPULATIVE (and it is ADDICTIVE)! Having influence means having the ability to control people’s actions. Persuasion tactics are not only good, they are a INEVITABLE! Keep reading; give me a chance to explain myself. Since the second we are born, each one among us has been guided, influenced, and moulded one way or the other. When you think about it, you’ll realize that you are in a permanent state of hypnosis, open to learning whatever you are taught. Generally, your “programming” comes from the very acceptable sources like lessons from your parents, your family members, and society at large.

This is precisely why Muslims breed Muslims children, Christians breed Christian children majorities, and Amish people retain their Amish values, even after they are allowed to experience the modern world (a la Rumspringa). Nobody would dare claim that it’s wrong for parents to teach (read: manipulate) their children that the values they hold dear are the “correct” ones. Nevertheless, this is the very essence of manipulation, presented in its purest form.

That child had those values installed in to his (or her) mind by his (or her) parents; the beliefs weren’t there, they were programmed in! All of us, you and me included have gone through a great deal of conditioning (call it programming, manipulation, brainwashing or mind control), because:

• We are all taught principles we never chose to learn.
• We absorb things inadvertently (aka get programmed by someone our teachers / parents / leaders didn’t have control over), and then someone comes in “hypnotizes” us so as to remove that which we accidentally learned.
• We are constantly in a state of trance, one that leaves us easily persuadable / programmable (the unfortunate fact is, we typically use this state to reinforce the Bull Shit that other people programmed on to us, and we choose not to break out of our own mind controlled state).

Each and every one of us has tried to overthrow the norm inside our heads because of a line in some good book, a person we revered, a girl we wanted to sleep with. These mini revolutions inside our minds convinced us that in spite of what we were “taught” smoking was cool, drugs weren’t all that bad, and that sex was (not a sin) but a fun thing to do.

Majority of us, though, only fought the norm a short time before our mini revolution was crushed. And, usually, the revolutions never live long in our heads. Fundamentally we are trained to live for the sake of four things. The core programming that has been drilled into us from year one, and quite possibly may even be hard-wired into our species. It is a self-preservation device, but it considers the survival of the larger entity the bigger priority, much bigger than just the individual.

1. All of us are taught to live for our own selves.
2. All of us are taught to provide for and live for our immediate family.
3. All of us are conditioned to “fit in” to society (don’t make noise at Temple, take care of weaker people, snitch on ‘evil’ doers).
4. All of us are trained to care for the greater good and ultimately the survival of our leader (unless he becomes unfit to rule, at which point social dynamics take over and we look for a better leader). A leader can be anyone from the alpha male on a macro scale (president) to someone on a local scale (father).

Rule number 1 (live for oneself) gets deprioritized quite often; the remaining three rules take precedent over it. In the sense, we take on disappointing lowly professions for the sake of our offspring’s, to put food on their plate. We become members of a social / religious institution like a temple / social club that fulfils our needs, and we change our desires to fit that of the community, slowly but surely becoming the perfectly programmed drone. As I mentioned earlier, the rules (1-4) are for the survival and the “greater good” of the community.

Nevertheless, what the greater good IS actually will be decided by the leader(s) who rule over us, the ones who put in place the rules we’re forced to follow (through psychological coercion and through brute force). These rules were laid down by him (or her or their ancestors). Not making any judgments here. There is undoubtedly a necessity for a system of mind control, like the one that is firmly in place now. Because you can’t run a system this vast with unruly citizens, you need compliance from all participants!

Psychological manipulation establishes this system and self-induced brainwashing keeps it running smoothly. Participants of this game make the choice to follow the leaders, and abide by the rules set forth (don’t steal, don’t manipulate, don’t take what is not yours, etc.). Regardless of what we want in life (women, power, or money) we chose to play by the rules set forth by those who have monopolized this system and its bounties. We choose not to “take” what we want, and continue in the submissive position we’re in.

You realize the rules of this system are there to maintain the status quo; so that our civilization continues as its leader pleases. BUT the amazing silver lining is that leadership is a choice. As long as you choose not to be the one getting pushed, you can then choose to become the pusher (or “the manipulator” – believe me they will call you names at first).

Could you imagine having that kind of ability I mean, the more you realize how easy it is to take control of your life now you can choose to be the person that influences, tear down the walls holding you down, come out of that submissive haze and control everything that happens in your life! You can either be the leader or the follower; these two roles are both necessary for the system. BUT only one of the two gets more of the things you want from life. Everyone defaults in to the follower role, but to become the leader you’ll need to choose. Notice that this is Part I? That is because over the course of this week (and possibly next week) I’ll be revealing the explosive secret techniques you can use to become the leader (or at least be perceived as one).

Let’s go back a little and see what Dr. House was doing in the final episode so that we get a better idea of the stuff going on in Season 8. In the final episode of Season 7, Episode 23 called “Moving On” our favorite antisocial maverick diagnostician had driven his car in to his former flame, Dr. Lisa Cuddy’s house. After doing this Dr. House apparently took off for some island so that he wouldn’t go to jail…

Season 8! Starts with Dr. House in prison (very Prison Break esque), he seemingly has the placed clocked (in the beginning), he is on good terms with all the shot callers one being a white supremacist (who could be Jewish) and the other being House’s giant psychotic and possibly murderous roommate. House helps the inmates make sure the prison infirmary is giving them the right medication (inmates are probably very paranoid about the meds they take, yeah right) and House catches a few mistakes made by the infirmary attendants, giving him a lot of value in the prison. House is up for parole, at the hearing we get a recap of his actions. And a better idea of what happened between the end of season 7 and the beginning of season 8.

House antagonizes the parole board a little at start but relents and plays ball by the end of the meeting. The parole board agrees to grant him parole on the condition that he stays in prison and out of trouble for 5 more days. House gets back to his cell… And the problems start. Word is out that the good doctor is up for parole and that he can’t afford to get in to any trouble (so as not to lose the parole boards ok and risk spending a lot more time in jail) so even the lower level criminals are gunning for The House. One of the weakling inmates walk in to House’s cell and steals his precious Tuna (which is worth more than gold in prison apparently) pointing out that House can’t do anything about it if he wants to get out on parole.

House accepts his diminished position because he wants to get out badly… The white supremacist leader, who usually gives House protection in return for Vicodin (pain killer) and medical advice, asks House to give him more amounts of Vicodin per day or risk getting shanked before he leaves! House threatens him, saying, he could just go in to protective custody for the remaining 5 days but the white supremacist leader tells House “unlike you, I have friends on the outside” meaning regardless of where House is he can be gotten to (the white supremacist gave a solid performance).

Just when we’re about to forget that this is a medical drama… Dr. House is hit up with a diagnosis request from a fellow inmate complaining of terrible pain in his hand, House turns him down (rudely) as he often does his new patients. This patient becomes House’s primary concern for the rest of the episode; House risks his life (and parole board okay to leave) all to prove his reluctant diagnosis of this patient.

Hotness

Hotness factor, the stunning Olivia Wilde was missing in this episode and so I was a bit worried that it was going to be an all guy show from now on (setting being a prison and all) till they decided to bring out the gorgeous Odette Anable (as the prison Doctor). And *GASP* Lisa Edelstien might be off the show for good (because of budgeting issues) if so she will surely be missed.

On the whole the episode was brilliantly directed by Greg Yaitanes and well written by Peter Blake. Odette Anable looked comfortable (check out her pictures here) in her new role and Hugh Laurie as always does a brilliant job playing the role he was made for! This season looks like it will be solid.

With a substantially large pipeline of debt transactions planned for the autumn, market participants have been waiting and watching to find out if banks would choose to shift commitments, even at a loss, or hold paper in the hope of an improvement in market sentiment. “There is clearly less buying capacity in the loan market,” said one investor. “But Wall Street is willing to sell paper at levels where they take a small loss, rather than have an overhang.” Bankers state that they were being careful not to devastate the over leveraged financial markets, quickly stating that they were not (yet) confronting a state similar to that experienced during the financial crisis of 2008 when banks were left in the cold holding billions of dollars of “hung loans” (when a bond sale fails and underwriting bank is stuck since the it has already committed to financing the deal whether or not they can sell the debt).

“We have a manageable amount of risk on the books and we are methodically moving that risk,” said Robert Schleusner, co-head of global leveraged finance at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Although some banks may be able to “methodically move risk” deals backed by private equity groups have struggled to gain support from investors. A recent loan to fund Providence Equity Partners’ acquisition of Blackboard (NASDAQ:BBBB), a company serving the education sector, was sold at a higher-than-expected yield and a substantial discount to par value. Blackboard’s loan was offered to investors at 92 cents on the dollar, said Standard & Poor’s LCD, a debt research company. Financing for KKR’s purchase of Go Daddy, a domain registrar and website company, also required a discount. Discounts such as this, as well as protection instruments for investors should a loan be repaid early, are created to encourage high yield bond investors to buy these loans, market observer’s state. In-spite of the prevalent market condition deals are going through, others added, unlike in (recent) periods of trouble when banks plainly held back from hosting debt sales at all.

“The market is differentiating between corporate deals and sponsor-backed deals which tend to have higher leverage,” stated Richard Zogheb, co-head of Americas capital markets origination at Citigroup, citing strong investor demand for corporate deals, ones such as Sealed Air’s purchase of Diversey. “But the backlog is fairly moderate in size and we expect that it will all get absorbed,” he said. Since the Federal Reserve, to calm the markets, released news last month it maintain interest rates near where they are (near zero) for two years at least, there has been very little reason for retail investors to buy loans. In the past investors counting on an economic recovery and rising interest rates had been putting money into leveraged loans, which payed a floating rate. While inflows have resumed for mutual funds that purchase junk bonds, net redemption’s have persisted for funds specializing in leveraged loans. The market is now looking at how the financing for Apax’ $6.3bn buy-out of Kinetic Concepts, the woundcare specialist goes.

Underwriters are demanding extra flexibility in new financing obligations, said sources, in case the Kinetic deal unnerves markets. Higher pricing and tougher terms for new lending could cause auctions to be slowed or postponed as private equity groups struggle to meet their target yields.

The king made the announcement in a yearly speech on Sunday before his advisory assembly (or Shura Council), that Saudi women will be able to run for office and cast votes in the 2015 municipal elections. Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz said that women will also be appointed to “join the all-male” Shura Council, which is selected by Abdullah. Saudi Arabia held its first-ever municipal elections in 2005. The kingdom will hold its next municipal elections on Thursday, but women will not able to vote or run for office at this time.

From a strategic stand point, King Abdullah has taken his time to give in to the demands of his people so that the Saudi Arabian Government projects an image of strength. But this new development is surely going to run afoul with the hardliners, and it could potentially cause conflicts within the Government. Intelligence sources, who wish to remain anonymous are waiting and watching to see the reaction and possible blow back this move could bring.

Erdogan said the two allies have arranged “in principle” the deployment of the drones in Turkey, the state-run Anatolia news agency reported. Turkey has offered to buy or lease the drones from the United States, Erdogan said. “Our negotiations will continue,” Anatolia quoted Erdogan as saying.

“The developments are moving toward an agreement.” Turkey is currently using Israeli manufactured Heron drones against the Kurdish rebels who have been fighting for autonomy in Turkey’s largely Kurdish southeast area since 1984. They have stepped up attacks on security forces in recent months. The Turkish government has hit back with airstrikes on suspected rebel bases in northern Iraq.
Turkish paramilitary police on Friday defused a powerful bomb thought to be planted by Kurdish rebels on a bridge in the countries southeast, and police also averted a likely attack in western resort town popular with foreign tourists. The attempted attacks came a day after police detained a suspected Kurdish rebel bomber. Kurdish rebels have stepped up attacks in Turkey intensely. Friday’s thwarted attack stoked more fears a day after a Kurdish militant group, the Kurdistan Freedom Falcons, took responsibility for a car bomb attack nearby a school in the Turkish capital of Ankara that killed three people and wounded 34 on Tuesday. The Turkish paramilitary police, acting on a tip, discovered 125 kilograms (275 pounds) of booby-trapped explosives planted on a highway bridge between the cities of Bingol and Elazig in the country’s southeast. The explosives, containing ammonium nitrate and C-4 plastic explosives, were stashed in four large gas canisters as well as a pressure cooker, the governor’s office in Bingol said.
The thwarted attack came a day after anti-terror squads apprehended a suspected bomber in a raid in the western holiday town of Bodrum, seizing 2.1 kilograms (4.6 pounds) of plastic explosives, unnamed police sources say. The suspect was is the prime suspect in a small bomb attack in the Mediterranean resort town of Kemer that wounded 10 people, including four Swedes on Aug. 28. Police refused to comment on the alleged arrest.

The Kurdistan Freedom Falcons, which also claimed the bombing in Kemer, had promised more attacks in retaliation for what it called the Turkish government’s “war” against the Kurdish people, according to pro-Kurdish sources.

“Our cross-border operations will continue in the same way as long as there is terrorism,” Erdogan stated. Erdogan also implied making arrangements to further create a strategic relations with neighbouring Iran to fight against the Kurdish rebels. A cell of the Kurdish rebel group is also fighting against Tehran from their main base on Qandil Mountain, which sits on the Iranian-Iraqi border. “There are steps that we can jointly take together with Iran,” Erdogan said. “We already have intelligence sharing.” Erdogan said Turkey would only halt its military drive if the rebels “lay down their arms.”

The prime minister last week confirmed reports that government officials met with agents of Kurdish rebels in Europe. The secret talks, which apparently failed to produce any real results, came to light after websites this week posted an audio recording from an alleged 2010 meeting.

The rebels intensified their attacks on Turkish targets in mid-July, accusing the government of not giving in to their demands, including appeal for autonomy, and education in Kurdish language — which Turkish Government fears could divide the country along ethnic lines. In a nationwide crackdown on alleged Kurdish rebel sympathizers, police on Friday detained the mayors of the towns of Sirnak, Idil and Silopi in the Kurdish-dominated southeast, bringing the number of Kurdish suspects arrested so far in this week to more than 80, sources say.

Earnings Season in full force: While the war of words over the debt ceiling raise takes center stage, earnings season is sure to heat up the market after this solid first week. 39 companies in the benchmark S&P 500 index .SPX have posted results, with 74 percent reporting earnings that topped Wall Street estimates. Companies in the index are forecast to show a 6.5 percent rise in profits over the second quarter of 2010 when all the reports are in.

Where the markets are now: For this week, the S&P 500 ended down 2.1 percent; the Dow fell 1.4 percent and the Nasdaq declined 2.5 percent. The overhang from the debt ceiling issue could diminish the focus on earnings and create a negative market environment. House Speaker John Boehner, the top Republican in Congress, said President Barack Obama and Democrats had still not put a serious deficit plan on the table, talking about the negotiations to avert a government default.

“The news flow next week dealing with the deficit issues and the political posturing that is taking place is going to intensify and is really going to drive these markets,” Paul Mendelsohn, chief investment strategist at Windham Financial Services in Charlotte, Vermont was quoted saying to Reuters. “People are starting to get nervous about what they are seeing out there. For a portfolio manager — let alone an average retail investor — this is a terrible market to be trying to position yourself in.”

The Economy: Economic data coming out for next week includes several reports on the housing market — June housing starts on Tuesday and existing-home sales on Wednesday. In addition, data is due on leading economic indicators for June and the Philadelphia Fed survey of manufacturing activity in the Mid-Atlantic region. Economic reports over the last month have raised serious questions about the health of the U.S. economy and the recovery. “The bigger picture is the economy is still a disaster,” said Joe Saluzzi, co-manager of trading at Themis Trading in Chatham, New Jersey. Saluzzi said people still are watching earnings for signs growth may be stagnating. “Eventually, companies are not going to keep cutting costs.”

Results: Companies releasing quarterly results next week, with more than 10 Dow components scheduled to report. Significant financial firms due to report are: Goldman Sachs (GS.N) – expected to be positive, Morgan Stanley (MS.N) – expected to be positive, Bank of America Corp (BAC.N) – expected to be neutral or negative and American Express (AXP.N) – expected to be positive. Also going to be released are earnings news from technology behemoths Apple Inc (AAPL.O) – neutral or positive, Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) – neutral or negative and Intel Corp (INTC.O) expected to be positive.

“Let’s see what all the rest of these guys have. Let’s see if it’s still being driven by cost cuts or are they actually getting revenue gains. That is going to tell me a lot more than if they cut the debt deal,” said Saluzzi. After the S&P 500 lackluster results this week, the index was just below its 50-day moving average, a technical level which could indicate more selling in the coming week. Some analysts believe the market could still stage a comeback if provided the U.S. debt issue is resolved quickly.

“This area, as far as it pulling back, is balancing the threat of a default, but it would take an actual default to take us much lower than here,” said Marc Pado, U.S. market strategist at Cantor Fitzgerald & Co. in San Francisco.

The longer the debt ceiling drama continues without a conclusion (default or get off the pot), the bigger the risk for further market decline and more likelihood of volatility spiking. The CBOE Volatility index .VIX rose nearly 30 percent for the week. “The more it drags out into Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or whatever, then we’ve got some serious issues. That will be an overhang no matter how good the financials come in terms of earnings reports next week,” said Tommy Huie, chief investment officer of BMO Asset Management U.S. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. “It could be a pretty volatile week, no doubt about it.”

This is how it happened. I was walking out of a fashion show thrown by a very promising up and coming designer. A couple of shows before, I had approached some of the models and they were a bit pensive (were all of them on the blob?), maybe it was just my severe jet lagged eyes (I looked a bit like a zombie the first day, honestly a zombie).

Anyway, I was very hopeful, I’m a strong believer in the law of averages, odds and probability (if you approach 100 models, 30 will be too emaciated and or high to care what you do to them). I was walking out of the show, heading over to this trendy café all the fashionable people (I heard two solid tens talking about this place) go to. On my way out the door, I saw this revelation I can only refer to as AU Beauty. She was fetching, everything about her was perfect, the hair, and the long legs, the amazing tan and the unusually wholesome breasts (for a model).And I got all nervous, got butterflies in my stomach and my palms got sweaty but I made a decision, I wanted this girl. So I decided to make my move, and by move I just mean I went up to her and told her I was a bull fighter (who dabbled in cock fighting).

She started laughing and I laughed with her awkwardly. She just wouldn’t stop laughing (because I guess, Australians really don’t have too many funny people over there). Out of the blue, this other beauty walks towards us. I admit, she looked a bit infuriated, but I mean, it’s me, I just have to say a couple of airplane food jokes and we’d probably end up having a threesome. I took off my shades to get a better look at this new beauty, turns out the “she” wasn’t a “she”! It was a “he” and by “he” I mean male model. He started raising his voice like he wanted to go and started mocking my fedora. I tried to diffuse the whole state of affairs by claiming he was just jealous of my fedora, but this only served to exacerbate the whole situation.

The Art of War (against models)

Attack your enemy’s vanity: As we all know, male models have extremely fragile egos sprouting from being abused by their uncles, probably.

Examine your enemy’s motives: All male models are closeted, if not actual, homosexuals (because of the abuse and the industry standard “it’s not who you know, it’s who you blow” – mime a blow job when you say this). He might be trying to incite a fight just for the opportunity to feel you up. In cases like this, a cold knock out would be better (if you aren’t another closeted homo, that is).

Know your enemy’s weakness: Male models are infamous for their eating disorders and this can work to your advantage. They’re probably so frail; it takes up their full concentration to stand straight. Keep moving around- this is especially effective if the fight is right after a show because they’ve probably been “purging” themselves a whole week.

Target his revenue: His face is his life. A clean blow to the face can leave a good mark, and if done right can cause permanent disfigurement to his face (which he is terrified of happening).

Make use of your enemy’s known failings: Wave something shiny in his face, like your car keys or your new Rolex. If that doesn’t work, try pointing and screaming, “Oh My god, there’s Heidi Klum!!” and run! (Or kick him in the mcnuggets.)

I wiped the floor with this guy; I am an expert (in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and having sex) for crying out loud. After the fight, it turned out Mr. Male Model felt so ashamed and hurt he forbade AU Beauty from ever seeing or talking to me, which only served as a provocation and she ended up visiting me where I was staying (I’d given her my number on the sly, and everybody at the place was talking about me) and I’m proud to say we made some sweet music (and by that I mean we had sex).

Case in point: Jonathan Rhys Meyers – Real name Jonathan Michael Francis O’Keeffe, like all other Irish people was born in to poverty (and mediocrity). Sources state that at one point Rachel Uchitel was invloved with both Jamie Dingman and Tiger Woods, before breaking it off with Jamie Dingman. When Rachael’s relationship with Woods started becoming serious, Jamie joked with her, reportedly saying, “That is ok. I’ll date his wife, Elin.” At the time the Tiger Woods scandal made headlines, Jamie Dingman was living with Rachel Uchitel in a Miami home.

Ironic: The first person who sold the Tiger Woods story to the media Jen Madden, lived with Jamie and Uchitel in the Miami home, and overheard Jamie and Uchitel discussing Uchitel’s relationship with Woods.

The Met hired Wallis’ PR firm, Chamy Media,  to provide “strategic communication advice and support” to the Metropolitan Police on a part-time basis from October 2009 to September 2010 whilst the Met’s Deputy Director of Public Affairs was on extended sick leave, The Met payed Wallis £1,000 a day (a total of £24,000). Sir Paul Stephenson admits he hired Wallis through Chamy Media as a personal media adviser.

Police probing the phone-hacking scandal arrested Mr Wallis, 60, yesterday. Hours later, Sir Paul Stephenson admitted to the fact that he hired Wallis through Chamy Media as a personal media adviser. Met public affairs boss Dick Fedorcio appointed him. Sources at Downing Street have said Mr Cameron believes Sir Paul has “urgent questions to answer” and is angry the Met chief for failing to inform him about Mr Wallis’s employment when they met for crisis talks at No 10 earlier this week. “Why did it come to light only on the day of the arrest?” asked one Government official.

In a letter to Lord Justice Leveson, the judge heading the public inquiry into phone-hacking, the Mayor warned that “serious questions have been raised about the relations between the press and the police”. He had been “made aware” of the contract with Chamy Media, and asked Lord Justice Leveson to consider “whether there is any culture, in this country, of financial collusion between the press and police”. Wallis, who is nicknamed the Wolfman in Fleet Street, registered Chamy Media in September 2009 and ran the company from his £850,000 house (with his wife Gaye, 56, serving as co-director).

A month after its inception, Chamy Media won a contract to supply personal communications advice to Sir Paul. The deal ended in September last year. However, Companies House has since struck off the firm in May “for failing to maintain its records, file accounts and reveal its directors and shareholders, which is in breach of the 2006 Companies Act”.

Former mayor Ken Livingstone has stated Sir Paul was guilty of “an appalling lack of judgment. I find it breathtaking that the Met could employ someone who held such a senior position when the News of the World was allegedly involved in criminal activity.” Downing street has reserved the right to suspended Sir Paul until after he provides explanations to the home affairs select committee, which has called him to answer questions urgently on Tuesday at noon, and also to Home Office officials who are compiling a report for Home Secretary Theresa May.

The son of a butcher, Sir Stephenson was raised in South-east Lancashire. He attended Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School where he became Head Boy. He joined the police service in 1975, at the age of 21. He became a Superintendent at the age of 34 in February 1988, he has also served as Assistant Chief Constable in Merseyside Police starting in 1994 and Deputy Chief Constable in Lancashire from May 1999 under Chief Constable Pauline Clare. Stephenson was appointed as Chief Constable of Lancashire Constabulary in July 2002 and promoted to Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police in February 2005. In September 2008 it was announced he would become Acting Commissioner of the Met from 1 December, following the resignation of Sir Ian Blair. In January 2009 it was announced that he had been appointed as Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police.

The investigation in to News of the World and its principals have shed light on the incestuous relationship between public officials and the media. The media which has been accused of buying information from police officers and of subverting the course of investigations.
